Module 1 is split into two parts. In the First part DCCA Director, Amy tries to help bridge the gap between yourself as a support worker and your customer, the NDIS community. Throughout this module we use mixed media taking an intimate look at the disability community, also breaking down some of the qualities that unite our vast customer base. We talk about some of the expectations that they may have in regard to the level of service, and industry knowledge you need in order to provide excellent service and build long-term professional relationships.
Amy puts your mind at ease, especially if you are just new to the disability industry. She breaks down the concept that it's not always about who has the most experience. It's sometimes about who has the best ability to understand and connect with their customer. It's sometimes about who knows their customer the best and is able to really tailor their services to their customer's needs. During the second section of module 1 Amy drives home the message that current, modern thinking about disability and its broader impact is what the market is actually crying out for. This thinking is new, elusive and will be the game changer. The second part of the module breaks down some of the political issues that the disability community is facing in an effort to help move you closer to the community you are working for and with.
